Infosys planning campus hiring in Jan

Amidst the slowdown and the freeze on recruitment, there is some good news for students graduating next year: Infosys is planning to begin campus recruitment across the country from January 2010.

Infosys Technologies chief executive officer and managing director S Gopalakrishnan, while speaking to reporters after a CII meeting in Hyderabad, said that the company skipped campus recruiting in view of the global economy slowdown.

However, Infosys is now looking at training about 18,000 of its employees under the extended mode till January 2010 and has also enhanced the present training of freshers from three and a half months to six months, said Gopalakrishnan.

He said earlier freshers were put on training in one technology but now they are training in two technologies, adding that "they are better equipped and are more flexible as they are trained in multiple skills."

He said that recruitment and expansion would begin early next year and that the economy too will start looking up by the second quarter of 2010

3G versus WiFi

*
This article compares and contrasts two technologies for delivering broadband wireless Internet access services:‘‘3G ’’vs.‘‘ WiFi’’.
*
The 3G refers to the collection of third-generation mobile technologies that are designed to allow mobile operators to offer integrated data and voice services over mobile networks.
*
The WiFi, refers to the 802.11b wireless Ethernet standard that was designed to support wireless LANs.
*
The goal of this article is to compare and contrast two technologies that are likely to play important roles: third-generation mobile (3G) and wireless local area networks (WLAN).
*
Specifically, we will focus on 3G as embodied by the IMT-2000 family of standards
*
The WLAN technology embodied by the WiFi or 802.11b standard, which is the most popular and widely deployed of the WLAN technologies.

How are WIFI and 3G same?

Both are wireless
*
Avoids the need to install cable drops to each device when compared to wire line alternatives
*
Avoiding the need to install or reconfigure wired local distribution plant
*
Cost saving
Facilitates mobility
The ability to move devices around without having to move cables and furniture and
*
The ability to stay continuously connected over wider serving areas

Both are access technologies
*
For 3G, the wireless link is from the end- user device to the cell base station which may be at a distance of up to a few kilometers, and then dedicated wire line facilities to interconnect base stations to the carrier’s backbone network and ultimately to the Internet cloud.
*
For WiFi, the wireless link is a hundred meters from the end-user device to the base station. The base station is then connected either into the wire line LAN or enterprise network infrastructure or to a wire line access line to a carrier’s backbone network and then eventually to the Internet.

Both offer broadband data service
Both 3G and WiFi support broadband data service, although as noted earlier, the data rate offered by WiFi (11 Mbps) is substantially higher than the couple of 100 kbps expected from 3G services.
*
Both services will also support ‘‘always on’’ connectivity which is another very important aspect of broadband service.

How are WIFI and 3G different?

Current business models/deployment is different
3G offers a vertically integrated, top-down,service-provider approach to delivering wireless Internet access

*
WIFI offers (at least potentially) an end-user-centric, decentralized approach to service provisioning

Spectrum policy and management cost of service
*
3G upfront cost of acquiring a spectrum license represents a substantial share of the capital costs of deploying 3G services.
*
WIFI This cost is not faced by WiFi which uses the shared 2.4 GHz unlicensed, shared spectrum.

Quality Of Service (QoS) and congestion management
*
3G Licensed spectrum is expensive, it does have the advantage of facilitating QoS management. With licensed spectrum, the licensee is protected from interference from other service providers.
*
The congestion management strategy
*
*
WIFI WiFi network can address the problem of congestion associated with users on the same WiFi network, it cannot control potential interference from other WiFi service providers or other RF sources that are sharing the unlicensed spectrum (both of which will appear as elevated background noise).

Industry structure
*
3G The Free Net movement is not easily conceivable in the 3G world of licensed spectrum.
*
WIFI Free Net movement is easily conceivable in the 3G world of unlicensed spectrum.

2012 Olympic Games - London

Three years from Monday, the eyes of the world will be on London for the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games
The city is celebrating the three-year mark by showcasing the event's centerpiece -- the under-construction Olympic Park -- and highlighting the progress made on everything from building work to transportation to getting sponsorship money.

Monday, Coe plans to ride a special train service from central London to the Olympic Park along with athletes and officials including London Mayor Boris Johnson and the government's Olympics minister, Tessa Jowell.

The Javelin high-speed train from St. Pancras station to Stratford International in east London will, by Games time, carry as many as 25,000 visitors an hour. From Stratford, visitors will be able to walk to the park. With a journey time of about seven minutes, the train service means London's Olympic Park will be more quickly accessed from the host city than has been the case in any previous Olympic Games, LOCOG officials say.

The 140-mile-per-hour train is a core part of London's Olympic transportation plans. But many of those plans are still unclear.

Karnataka to have single CET from 2010

Karnataka to have single CET from 2010 for Medical and Engineering Admissions

Karnataka to have single CET from 2010.Taking either CET, COMED-K will entitle admission could be an option

The Karnataka government plans to have a single Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to medical, dental and engineering courses – in both government and private institutions – from the forthcoming year.

Karnataka Minister for Higher Education Arvind Limbavali said that the State government was keen to have one common admission test for professional courses and it would try to ensure the same next year. The minister also noted that the state was keen to have a say in the admission process of deemed universities too.

Limbavali was responding to queries in the Legislative Council on the hardship and confusion arising from two different tests – CET by Karnataka Examiniation Authority andCOMEDK by the managements of private colleges.

Limbavali said the government wanted to adopt the single-CET system from this academic year, but could not do it due to technical reasons.

Nanaiah earlier highlighted the ‘fraudulent practices’ being adopted by Comed-K. “They ensure admission to students of their choice while awarding ranks after entrance exams,’’ he alleged. “Otherwise, how is it possible for students who have got 50-60% in PU exams to get ranks in the Comed-K entrance exam?”

DRDO 2009 Question Paper

DRDO was formed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then already functioning Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO). DRDO was then a small organisation with 10 establishments or laboratories. Over the years, it has grown multi-directionally in terms of the variety of subject disciplines

DRDO Question Pattern

Test for all is 3 hours 100 technical questions 25 GK and current affairs and 25 aptitude.
well there are several books available for preparing for DRDO.Any book which is prescribed for the GATE
preparation would do sufficiently. Refer some good magazines like CSR, Manorama Year book for GK sample gk questions and R.S Agarwal

INTERVIEW
The interview is a cool one. 5-6 members' board very friendly.

You have to reach at least half an hour earlier and complete the filling of forms and other formalities.
You must be in formals with
tie (guys) and gals sorry no info.
Should have a strong and attractive personality.
You will be seated in a big hall. Refreshments are provided.
If you don't bring the following certificates in original and in Xerox you will not be allowed to be interviewed. The certificates are SSLC, PDC / PUC / 12,BTech/BE provisional or original, all the mark lists from 10th to BTech, hall ticket ,interview call letter,
course certificate from the college, ID card (passport, college ID or voters ID), two passport sized photographs and certificates of any extra curricular activities like paper presentation, project work etc etc…
Carry with you the reports of the project work and papers presented.
Have a good look into the prospectus of DRDO set 2003-
Salary, post and things like that. Should have sound info about the different wings of DRDO. Refer the sitewww.drdo.org

Inside the room you will be seated in front of a board of members. Behind you will be a white board and a sketch pen will be handed over you. You will have to use the board to explain the answers.
The subjects that are hot favorites to the DRDO board – radar and navigational aids, satellite communication, antenna theory, digital, filters and microprocessors. (Sorry guys I have the info about ECE branch only).
There will be one minute warming questions in the beginning.
Question of general interest will be asked and they may ask to describe you. After that they will straight a way get into the tech interview. Don't expect any leniency from the super brains of
India.
If they see that you are not capable of answering a subject they will stick on to that subject and fire you with a volley of questions until you yourself think that "I am really a fool". Then now abt the standard of question. They ask only basic questions. Questions are simple but twisted. You should be able to give innovative solutions to the problems they give you- after all it's a Scientist B post.
